A woman found guilty of tricking a female friend into sex by using a prosthetic penis to pretend she was a man is set to appear in court.
Gayle Newland, 26, of Willaston, Cheshire, is appealing against her conviction for three counts of sexual assault and eight-year jail sentence at the Court of Appeal in London.
Newland was said to have disguised her appearance and voice as she persuaded her victim to wear a blindfold at all times when they met.
She was jailed in November last year but has always maintained her innocence.
The conviction and jail term sparked outrage at the time and a petition to reduced the sentence was signed by around 1,500 people.
The trial at Chester Crown Court heard that the pair had sex up to 10 times until the complainant decided to take her mask off and saw Newland wearing a prosthetic penis.
Judge Roger Dutton branded Newland an “obsessional, highly manipulative, deceitful, scheming and thoroughly determined young woman”.
Marketing manager Newland claimed her accuser always knew she was pretending to be a man as they engaged in role play while struggling with their sexuality.
