UK weather: Hottest September day for 67 years CONFIRMED - but here comes Met Office severe weather warning

The hottest September day for 67 years has been confirmed today as the Met Office issued thunderstorm warnings.

A temperature of 32.2C was recorded at Heathrow today – the last time it reached 32C in September was in 1949.
A North/South weather divide has also emerged as thunderstorms get set to batter the North – while the South continues to bask in hot summery sunshine.
Health warnings were issued ahead the hottest September day in nearly 70 years, but yellow warnings of rain are now in place for Northern England and South East Scotland.
This month is also on course to be the hottest September Britain has seen for 357 years, as warm air from Spain comes to the UK.
Public Health England's Dr Thomas Waite said: "Many of us will make the most of it when the sun shines but some people may not be able to adapt to the extra strain hot weather will but on their bodies and may feel the ill effects."
There were 436 extra deaths on August 24 when the thermometer reached a sizzling 33.9C.

Weather outlook forecaster Brian Gaze said: "It will be exceptionally hot, with blowtorch conditions."
