Following a lopsided loss to up-and-coming welterweight Mickey Gall at UFC 203, CM Punk much-anticipated debut in the Octagon ended the way many of his skeptics said it would.
Punk’s courageous odyssey into UFC resulted in a wildly disappointing result in his first showing, and if his ambitions to return to the cage—as he mentioned in his post-fight interview with Joe Rogan—UFC President Dana White seemed to suggest that it wouldn’t be at the highest level.
John Pollock of the Fight Network Tweeted the following after speaking with White:
The former WWE Superstar was asked during the post-fight press conference if it was wise for him to have his first fight in the UFC as opposed to honing his skills at the developmental level. Punk claimed that he’d “be a fool” not to jump at the opportunity presented to him to compete in the UFC, but did go on to admit that his initial plans were to begin fighting as an amateur.Dana White tells me that if CM Punk has another fight, it probably shouldn’t be in the UFC
Punk’s determination and courage to pursue such a demanding career choice with nothing to prove is admirable. But if he has designs to resume his MMA career, perhaps he should heed the reported advice from Dana White
